MOVE

All Life is Movement & Movement is Life

At the most fundamental level, every part of life - and every part of our life - inner and outer - is always in motion, right down to the cellular, atomic and elemental level. It is the building block of life.

Physical health and well-being

For humans, physical movement is both fundamental and also very simple: our bodies are designed to move in a million different ways and different directions; we run, jump, walk, swim, climb… It's movement that gives us healthy joints, strong bones, physical strength, good circulation and everything else needed for a healthy body and physical well-being.

However, it also improves learning skills, concentration, and mental well-being. Without it we would deteriorate.

Mental health and well-being

As well as boosting cognitive function, movement also allows us to release stress and tension held in the body, to regulate and process emotions, and has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, lift mood and improve sleep.

Physical activity affects brain chemistry, triggering the release of feel-good neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin and reducing stress hormones, including cortisol. This is what makes movement so invigorating, enlivening and how it makes us calmer, happier and more relaxed.

As humans, we also learn, connect with each other and survive through movement.

Movement allows us to locate ourselves in the world by enabling us to orient spatially to our place in the world and larger web of life.

It is the method by which we navigate our lives and worlds.

Movement is the unifying bond between the mind and the body

The movements we make matter.

Movement can be a powerful form of self-expression and means to connect to the wisdom of the body and its innate healing capacity. When movement becomes expressive or is used to communicate something, it becomes dance. Any movement can become a dance.
